Doha: Jusoor – Events
Al-Noor Center for the Blind, one of the centers under the Qatar Social Work Foundation, which in turn falls under the Ministry of Social Development and Family, is celebrating World Braille Day on January 4, 2025. This coincides with the 200th anniversary of the invention of the Braille system, a major turning point in the lives of blind people worldwide.
This year, comprehensive awareness activities will be organized to highlight the role of the Braille system in enabling people with visual impairments to access education and actively participate in society.
On this occasion, Mr. Mishaal Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Executive Director of Al-Noor Center for the Blind, emphasized that celebrating this day holds special importance this year as it coincides with the anniversary of the invention of Braille — a revolutionary milestone that granted blind individuals the ability to read and write independently.
Al Nuaimi affirmed that Al-Noor Center continues its efforts to provide advanced educational solutions based on this system, contributing to enhancing the capabilities of people with visual impairments to excel in various academic and professional fields. He added that the center is investing in the latest technologies that integrate Braille with modern tech to offer the best educational experience in line with current times.
Modern Solutions
The center’s activities on this day include an awareness pavilion showcasing the latest assistive devices using Braille in education, such as smart tablets that allow blind users to interact with digital educational content. Additionally, the center will introduce advanced technological solutions powered by artificial intelligence, opening new horizons to accelerate the learning process for blind individuals and maximize the benefits of modern technologies.
As part of the activities, there will be an awareness debate on the history and development of Braille over the years, alongside training workshops designed to educate attendees on the latest technologies that integrate Braille with advanced technology, empowering blind people to learn more efficiently and quickly.
The center will also present inspiring success stories of individuals who have excelled in education and work by using Braille and assistive technologies. The event will offer participants a close look at these remarkable experiences, demonstrating the ability of blind people to adapt to modern technologies and achieve excellence in various fields.
This celebration also serves as an opportunity to reaffirm Al-Noor Center’s commitment to developing an inclusive educational environment that provides equal opportunities for people with visual impairments and supports them in overcoming challenges they may face.
